Veterinary technicians now have the opportunity to tell the world why they love their jobs, which could net them a cash prize or even a paid trip to the 2015 NAVC Conference.

The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) and Pets Best Insurance Services, LLC, announced July 22 that they are teaming up to host the inaugural "Why I Love Being a Vet Tech" contest.

The contest encourages veterinary technicians to submit short essays of up to 250 words describing how they decided on their career and why they love their work, Pets Best reported.

According to the contest rules, submissions will be accepted until the Sept. 12 deadline. A panel of judges from both organizations will select eight finalists, followed by a period from Sept. 26 through Oct. 10 where the public will be able to vote for the winner online at the Pets Best website and the company's Facebook page

The winner will be announced on Oct. 13, Pets Best said.

The eight finalists will each receive a $200 prize and a one-year NAVTA membership, while the top vote-getter will receive a paid trip to next year's NAVC Conference.

"Many people are unaware that veterinary technicians assume a great deal of responsibility in many areas of animal care," said Julie Legred, CVT, NAVTA executive director. "Our field requires a genuine passion for helping animals, and we look forward to working alongside Pets Best to share the inspirational stories of veterinary technicians across the nation."
