Preventive healthcare benefits everyone. But all too often, clients don’t understand the benefits. If they did, research shows, they would embrace it. That’s where communication comes in. And some free tools can help.

Partners for Healthy Pets (PHP), an alliance of 100+ veterinary associations, veterinary colleges, and animal health companies focused on preventive care led by AAHA and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), is offering free, downloadable tools your staff can use to share various aspects of your preventive healthcare program with clients.

The Words that Work series has analyzed successful preventive healthcare conversations with clients and broken those conversations down into specific topics, including history taking and relationship building, conveying value during a physical exam, and dental, heartworm, and nutrition discussions.

Free, downloadable scripts provide teams with communication techniques to apply to a variety of topics related to client communications. Also included are related videos and a workbook.

As a practice owner and manager, launching The Words that Work Series is easy. To start, review the videos to identify how best to use them in your practice. Then, schedule a series of staff meetings to view the videos as a team, discuss key elements of the scripts, and brainstorm ideas for implementing them.

Client communication is at the heart of a practice’s success and is critical to boosting compliance, building strong relationships with A-list clients, and ensuring that preventive healthcare is understood and embraced.
