In the wake of the Tropical Depression Harvey disaster, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has made it easier for Texas veterinarians to treat animals affected by the storm. At the request of the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners, the governor’s office suspended two parts of the Veterinary Licensing Act, relating to Authority to Dispense Drugs Prescribed by Another Veterinarian in an Emergency, and Existence of a Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship. Gov. Abbott also signed legislation allowing out-of-state veterinarians to come to Texas to provide relief services without a Texas veterinary license.
