Here are some of the changes going into effect for accreditation evaluations scheduled January 1, 2019 and beyond. Please contact your accreditation specialist with specific questions you may have: practice.accreditation@aaha.org

Anesthesia

Removed:

MA03. A patient assessment is performed by a practice team member prior to the administration of any premedication, sedation, or anesthetic.

Added:

MA03.1. A patient assessment is performed by a practice team member prior to the administration of any premedication, sedation or anesthetic. Such assessment ensures:

  • Positive patient identification
  • Verification of appropriate procedures and anatomical location
  • Appropriate presurgical diagnostic testing has been performed and evaluated.

Rationale:
The condition of a patient can change rapidly.
