Does your practice have a problem with inactive clients? A review of approximately 5,000 companion animal veterinary practices in the US showed that in 2015, 53% of dogs and 59% of cats in these practices hadn’t had a visit in at least 18 months.

Partners for Healthy Pets (PHP), an alliance of more than 100 veterinary associations, veterinary colleges, and animal health companies focused on preventive care led by AAHA and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), is providing free online tools to help bring inactive clients back to your practice.

This program goes beyond your typical reminder service. Its success is tied to engaging messages that are empathetic to the owners’ challenge of getting the pet to the veterinarian and promote the idea that annual exams are as important to their pet’s health as food and love. The emails also use images from PHP advertising campaigns that have been proven to connect with pet owners.

What else makes this program different? It’s based on the client’s visitation history, rather than a timetable for a specific service. The practice can identify pet owners who have been inactive for a specific period, like 14 months or longer.

By delivering a message that expresses concern for the pet’s health and the importance of care rather than a service-specific message, the program focuses on the relationship between the pet, owner, and veterinary practice.

Personalized templates can include the name of your practice, the client, and the pet. The reminders also offer the option to provide $25 off the cost of the exam when a client returns.

Join the inactive clients program now used by more than a thousand practices across the country and see your number of inactive clients decrease with these free online tools from PHP.
