Some things aren’t taught in veterinary school.

Designed to meet the specific needs of 2014–2018 graduates, the Indispensable Associate: Professional Skills Workshop covers everything you need to know—but no one told you—about practicing veterinary medicine, from communication skills to business best practices.

With guidance from communication expert, Karlene Belyea, MBA, and emergency and critical care veterinarian (aka, VETGirl), Justine Lee, DVM, DACVECC, DABT, you’ll return to your hospital ready to:

  • Navigate conflict with confidence
  • Remove client compliance and communication barriers
  • Improve team interactions by recognizing different communication styles
  • Pay off your student debt (yes, really!) and invest into retirement
  • Do more with less by offering gold-standard care within limited means
  • Stop dreading “the money conversation”
  • Fill your cup by embracing positivity, putting yourself first, learning to say no, and forgiving others (including yourself)

“This program provides a truly special opportunity to help young veterinarians enhance their skill sets in multiple areas,” Belyea said. “In these sessions, we’ll learn how to adapt our behavior to work better with all personality types, including applying techniques for conflict management, dealing with negative people, and using words that work. We’ll also share strategies for increasing personal happiness and dealing with stress—and have a lot of fun doing it!”

“Having practiced in the trenches of emergency veterinary medicine for the past 20 years, I know how hard it is,” Lee said. “I’ve personally battled overwhelming student debt, suicide ideation, compassion fatigue, and burnout. That’s why I’m honored to share my story, journey, and life hacks with my fellow colleagues in this unique program.”
