Pet owners are willing to embrace preventive healthcare visits if they understand the value and benefit to their pets.

Partners for Healthy Pets (PHP), an alliance of more than 100 veterinary associations, veterinary colleges, and animal health companies focused on preventive care led by AAHA and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), is offering a free, downloadable series of videos to help your team effectively communicate the value of preventive care to pet owners.

The Words That Work video series and scripts are designed to help practice teams have successful preventive healthcare conversations with clients. The series offers a detailed look at these conversations by including specific topics to address.

The supporting scripts can be downloaded and include a list of communication techniques that your team can apply to everyday practice and discussion questions you can use in team training.

Words Matter: Effective vs. Ineffective Ways to Talk About Flea Control
This two-minute video shows two different ways of discussing flea control with clients.

Prepare the Client for Future Healthcare Costs
This two-minute video demonstrates how the entire practice team can have conversations with clients about a pet’s “big picture” healthcare.

Physical Exam 
This video provides advice on how to communicate the value and benefit of the physical exam and what the various components of the exam entail.

Other topics covered in the videos include history taking and relationship building, as well as dental, heartworm, and nutrition discussions.
