At this point in the game, most savvy veterinarians and practice managers understand that a successful practice will play host to a stunning, responsive website and an active social marketing presence across the major social media platforms. Yet, despite the known importance of these two key elements, many decision makers are still on the fence as to whether or not a blog is a necessary component of their overall marketing and outreach strategy.

Blogging provides veterinary practices with four distinct benefits:

  • Improves your site's page ranking on Internet search results by providing fresh, relevant content to your site on a regular basis (search engines love that)
  • Establishes your practice and veterinarians as industry leaders within your community
  • Builds relationships with your clients and prospective clients outside of the exam room
  • Creates in-house content for social media sharing

This four-pronged approach to the why of blogging certainly sets the stage for success, but, not surprisingly, what you blog about is just as important as the actual blogging itself. While it may be tempting to attune your blogging schedule to your marketing goals and your medical expertise, our experience says otherwise. More or less.

In reviewing the 2014 blog analytic data for our clients' blog readership, we found that the topics geared toward people becoming better pet parents and pet ownership education were the most successful by far.

And more successful still? Those that addressed topics many would deem to be controversial. Blog posts such as "The Butt-Scootin' Boogie" and "The Straight Dope on Pot and Pets" not only outstripped their more tame counterparts within the month of publication, but have held their relevance month after month.

Why? Because you're educating pet owners on topics that matter to them and, in this instance, are too risky or embarrassing to ask in the exam room. And in one bold blog post, you have accomplished each of the four benefits of blogging.

Is your blog stagnant? Beyond Indigo can help! We offer packages that include the writing and optimization of blog posts that integrate with your marketing strategy. Contact us today for more information.
