Delivering veterinary services to cat is a different breed of care. While some practices are exclusively dedicated to the care of cats, others would like to develop an increased focus on feline healthcare. No matter where you fall, Partners for Healthy Pets (PHP) has the tools and resources to help.

An alliance of more than 100 veterinary associations, veterinary colleges, and animal health companies focused on preventive care led by AAHA and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), PHP is offering a free, downloadable suite of tools to help you put the focus on the feline.

One of these resources is the hour-long web conference, “Becoming a Cat Friendly Practice,” presented by Elizabeth J. Colleran, DVM. Worth one CE credit, this web conference will help your team:

  • Understand trends and research on owned cats and the veterinary care they receive
  • Learn techniques to become cat friendly in all areas of medical care
  • Discern unique baseline species information regarding behavior, health, and environment
  • Discover and use the new Cat Friendly Practice program

Many cat owners forego veterinary care for their pets to avoid the stress that a visit may bring, both to the cat and the owner. This conference offers strategies to lessen the stress of the veterinary visit and create a win-win for everyone involved.

Another web conference, “American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) Feline-Friendly Handling Guidelines,” presented by Ilona Rodan, DVM, DABVP, discusses how to handle cats in a manner that reduces their fear and fear-association aggression. It also develops a standard operating procedure for handling cats.

By utilizing the free, online tools available through PHP, you can reduce the stress of feline visits and continue to make your practice more cat friendly.
