Osteosarcoma in Dogs: New Therapeutic Advances

Friday, April 1, 2016 from 8:50am-9:40am

Purpose of this lecture is to discuss the prevalence of canine osteosarcoma and the limitations that current treatment options have on long-term survival. Review the biologic behavior of osteosarcoma, the high rate of metastatic disease and the current therapeutic plateau we have reached with traditional cytotoxic chemotherapeutics. Discuss novel approaches directed towards the micro-metastatic disease present in 90% of patients with specific emphasis on the Listeria based therapeutic vaccine. Explain proposed mechanism of action of this vaccine and review clinical data from studies at University of Pennsylvania.
