What happens when you ask a dentist...about dermatology? Watch and play along virtually as veterinary specialists compete to see how well they know the pathologies and treatment plans for the types of cases most commonly seen by general practitioners. You’ll walk away with refreshers on the things your practice sees the most and a renewed sense of pride in the work every veterinary team does on a daily basis, presented in a fun, fast-paced, game show format. Session 2: Now, Near, Far—Staffing Your Practice With Longevity in Mind

AAHA consistently hears that it’s incredibly hard to find and keep dedicated staff at their practices. Between shortages in available candidates and attrition due to unhappy work environments, it may seem like a dream to have a staff of “lifers.” We want to help that dream come to fruition.

In this session, a panel of experts will share insights into successful hiring procedures and tips for making your practice a desirable place to work. We’re not only talking with HR and specialized consultants, but also practitioners who have wildly successful teams with little attrition.

We’ve split this session into three parts:

  • Now: How to find the right staff today, and ideas for improving practice culture so they’ll want to stay.
  • Near: How to recruit from recent veterinary and technician schools and stand out from others looking to do the same.
  • Far: Suggestions for inspiring passion for the field among school-aged children of varying backgrounds with an eye to increasing diversity in the field.

We encourage all participants to join us in the chat and be a part of the discussion! It’s too important to leave anyone out.

But now, you’re disenchanted and working in an unhealthy environment that is detrimental to your health and happiness. Join us in a frank discussion to first acknowledge some of the harshest truths of life as a veterinary team member, then to explore a path forward that will allow you to stay within the profession. Our experts will offer tips and tools for advocating for yourself and reclaiming some of the lost fairytale aspects of your job. You will leave the session with the steps to help you seek and enact change and, ultimately, find the sustainability you truly deserve.

By the end of this session, attendees will be able to:

  • Advocate for themselves both inside and outside of the practice manager’s office
  • Understand the tools that are required to ask for what they need
  • Recognize self-destructive behaviors at work
  • Define what they need and want out of their career—and understand why “I’m not in it for the money” is a self-defeating sentence

When and where is May virtual Connexity?

May's virtual sessions will occur on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 from 10am to 1pm Eastern Time (8am to 11am Mountain) on a virtual platform called Matchbox. Access information will be provided to registrants via email.

Can I earn CE from May Connexity?

Yes! May's virtual sessions are currently RACE-approved for 1 medical and 2 nonmedical hours of CE.

What is the cost of May Connexity?

May Connexity is absolutely FREE! You may choose to make an optional donation to BlackDVM Network if you would like.

Who can register for May Connexity?

Anyone can register! All practice role types, all AAHA membership types, and nonmembers are welcome.

Who are the learning facilitators for May Connexity?

How long will registration for May Connexity be open?

Registration for May Connexity is open now and will stay open until the day of the meeting. Please note that nonmembers will need to create a free AAHA account (if you don't already have one) to complete registration.

Will May Connexity be available on-demand?

Yes, May Connexity's virtual sessions will be available as an on-demand option. Attendees must register to access sessions on-demand after the meeting. Quizzes will be added, which registrants must complete to receive CE credit for on demand sessions.

Will there be a Facebook Group available for May Connexity attendees?

Yes. A Facebook Group has been created for this meeting. It will also serve as the Facebook Group for September and November 2021 events. Attendees will receive a link to the Group upon registration.

How do I access the May Connexity virtual platform?

After registering for the meeting at, all attendees will receive a registration confirmation email prompting them to create a separate account on Matchbox (our virtual platform) to access the meeting; only an email address and self-selected password are required.
