She brings more than 18 years of practical veterinary business experience to her practice consults. The author of the book, Social Media for Veterinary Professionals, and an experienced leader who has taken practices to award-winning levels of recognition when it comes to workplace culture, Tassava approaches consulting in a “whole-istic” manner. She believes that when you invest in great people and paint a vision for them to work toward, prosperity and profitability are natural outcomes. When Tassava’s not busy lecturing and visiting practices all over North America, you’ll find her in her art studio, painting and chatting away with Eowyn, her African grey parrot.

He works with companies of all sizes as they recruit new employees, draft employment policies and handbooks, and manage disciplinary issues, terminations, and reductions in force. He assists management in determining who’s an employee and who’s an independent contractor, and prepares employment and professional services agreements. He also trains employers on how to avoid discrimination, retaliation, and wrongful discharge claims, and represents companies when claims arise. These days, Paul and his firm spend time helping employers understand what they do—and don’t—have to do to comply with healthcare reform.

Melissa Tompkins, BS, CVPM
Melissa started working in the veterinary field over 16 years ago starting out as a tech assistant/receptionist. She worked her way up to become a practice manager in 2005 and she never looked back. Melissa earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science from Cal Poly Pomona and became a Certified Veterinary Practice Manager in 2011. She has worked in general practice (Feline only), specialty, and emergency. Melissa now owns her own consulting business, South Coast Veterinary Management Solutions helping multiple hospitals. In 2018, she was named the Southern California Veterinary Medical Association’s Paraprofessional of the year.
“Like others, I was promoted to hospital manager by working up the ranks over several years. Those years provided tons of knowledge and experience, but this program taught me that I was not using my skills in the most effective ways. I learned how to better prioritize my goals, direct my staff, and use my time. Now I feel like a newly polished, respected professional who will better my hospital and lead my staff in a positive direction. I would recommend this program to any manager.”
— Sharon Klein, hospital manager,
Animal Hospital in Fairfield
