Shannon Thompson, RVT

Passionate for pet owners, their pets and the veterinary teams that care for them, Shannon Thompson, a Registered Veterinary Technician, is the former CEO and Executive Director for the Registered Veterinary Technologists & Technicians of Canada.

Shannon’s work experience, for the past 30 years, as an RVT has included general veterinary practice of small animal, bovine and equine care, emergency & critical care medicine, and referral specialties in ophthalmology and dentistry. Education has also been a significant area for Shannon having been an educator, curriculum developer and program coordinator in both the Veterinary Technician and Veterinary Assistant programs at Algonquin College in Ottawa, Ontario.

“I am fortunate to have an amazing career, it has ebbed and flowed following the babbling stream of my life. Networking and meeting amazing people along the way has always been my rejuvenation. From my first day as a new graduate, the same day the only other tech left the country for a month, it has provided both challenges and rewards at every step. Doesn’t every new grad open a new hospital in their first year? Yes, I am face palming, I get it!”

As a lifelong learner who loves to network, meeting fellow veterinary colleagues, and promoting this fantastic profession, Shannon is eager to participate and engage with the global veterinary community.
