Dan Brod, DVM, obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Kansas State University in 1983. He is the current vice president of strategic opportunities of Companion Animal Practices North America (CAPNA) and chief executive officer of Dear Creek Animal Hospital in Littleton, Colorado, a 17-doctor, 24-hour practice he cofounded in 1984. For the past 10 years, Brod has helped bring vendor opportunities to more than 800 Veterinary Management Group (VMG) hospitals as a member of the Veterinary Study Groups (VSG) Strategic Opportunities Committee. He has spent the past five years developing leadership programs for first-time leads and managers in the veterinary hospital, with the most recent courses being held at the Daniels School of Business at Denver University. Brod lives in Littleton, Colorado with his wife, Val, two dogs, one cat, and a pond of six inherited Japanese koi fish.

 

Karlene Belyea, MBA, is the chief executive officer of the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA). In addition to 29 years of experience managing associations, she is a nationally known speaker who presents to a wide variety of groups in improving workplace communication. She is a certified Everything DISC Trainer and presents sessions on behavioral styles, generational differences, body language, leadership and influence, creating happy work teams. work-life balance, and brain training (neuroscience). She has a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Michigan and a bachelor's degree in telecommunications from Michigan State University so she can cheer for whoever's winning.
