Michael T. Cavanaugh, DVM, DABVP

A 1983 graduate of the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Michael Cavanaugh has been the chief executive officer of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) since 2010. Prior to joining AAHA, Cavanaugh was very active in several veterinary associations and held numerous volunteer leadership and committee positions within AAHA.

In addition to his experience as a companion animal practitioner, Cavanaugh gained valuable experience working in the animal health industry for 14 years.

Since joining the association, Cavanaugh has facilitated cultural transformation of both the AAHA Board of Directors and staff. Recent projects include a staff reorganization that is meant to provide an excellent and memorable experience for AAHA members, as well as a reimagination of AAHA’s longstanding yearly conference into a smaller, more intimate experience focusing on AAHA-accredited members. For his work on these initiatives, Cavanaugh was recently selected as a 2017 Meetingsnet Changemaker.
