Host an open house

Have you ever wished clients could see what’s really going on behind the scenes at your hospital?

It’s one thing to talk about AAHA accreditation—and quite another to see it in action. An open house is a great opportunity to invite current clients and other members of your community to get to know your practice and showcase the value of AAHA accreditation.

Open your doors to the public and let them see the AAHA difference for themselves. Here are a few tips to get you started:

  • Publicize your open house on social media and local event calendars. Don’t forget to invite current clients and other organizations that support your business, such as a local shelter.
  • As you prepare for your event, take time to view your hospital from a client’s perspective. Is it friendly and warm? Did you miss a spot when cleaning? Are the AAHA logos strategically placed and visible? What can be improved?
  • Educate your team on how to discuss your hospital’s accreditation and ensure they are prepared to answer any questions. Training resources are available in the Publicity Toolbox.
  • Order promotional products for your clients from the AAHA Store to hand out as freebies or prizes.
  • Give a short presentation about what it means to be AAHA accredited. Use the latest pet owner data to quiz your attendees and award prizes for correct answers!
  • Offer behind-the-scenes tours of your hospital, highlighting the areas where you offer care that adheres to the AAHA Standards of Accreditation. Not sure where to start? Use the "Behind the logo" infographic to guide your tour!
  • Give more than just a tour. Engage your attendees with a contest to see how many AAHA logos they can spot in your hospital. The closest guess wins a prize!
  • Don’t forget the food! Have your local bakery print the AAHA logo on cookies or a cake—just download the file from the Publicity Toolbox.
  • Go live on Facebook to share your event in real-time or host a virtual tour.
  • Have take-home materials ready to go. Stock up on brochures and hand out referral cards to clients offering a discount or incentive when they refer your accredited hospital to a friend.
  • Take plenty of photos and don’t forget to share them on your website and social media channels.
