Heart of a prevention conversation

Heartworm disease is a devastating, but preventable disease. In past surveys, it was reported that only 48% of dogs received monthly heartworm prevention, with an average of 4.2 months dispensed per dog.

AAHA teamed up with Merial on an initiative to encourage all veterinary professionals to recommend and prescribe year-round heartworm preventive for all dogs. This is another important initiative supporting AAHA’s goal to improve increasing the healthcare of our pets through routine preventive care.

Below, you will find valuable tools to help you enhance heartworm preventative care in your practice, including background information about heartworm disease, communication tools and videos, protocols, and staff training information.
