FDA Researches Use of Nanotechnology
A report on nanotechnology was recently released by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). A task force reviewed safety issues relating to the use of nanotechnology and reported that while safety is similar to products using other “emerging technologies,” nanotechnology may pose “magnified” challenges because of the size and use of the materials. The risks versus benefits of using nanotechnology in medical drugs and devices was weighed by a government task force and published online.
In essence, the FDA will ask manufacturers using nanotechnology to submit data early in the process and will continue to monitor the use and safety of the technology in products.
