AUA closes vet program

The American University of Antigua’s Veterinary School is closing its school after only two years of classes.

The university has suspended all veterinary classes for 2012 and will close the school at the end of this semester.

The university said that AUA students currently attending the school will complete their veterinary coursework at St. George’s University Veterinary School, located on the island of Grenada in the West Indies. Other students will continue their studies at Virginia Tech’s Veterinary School in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Prospective candidates who already submitted an application to AUA’s veterinary program can have their application forwarded to St. George’s Veterinary School. AUA is also refunding the fees of students who were accepted to or applied to AUA’s veterinary program.

According to the news release from the school, there are no immediate plans to reopen the veterinary program.

"Although school officials have noted that situations might arise which would allow AUA to reopen the veterinary school, this is not being considered at the present time," the news release said.
