AAFP cat friendly practice program goes online
The AAFP announced the new program at the January 2012 North American Veterinary Conference (NAVC) in Orlando, Fla.
The AAFP has announced that the program is now available online, and that prospective applicants can begin the application process by going to www.catvets.com.
According to the AAFP, although there are millions more pet cats than dogs, almost twice as many cats than dogs never visit the veterinarian. The new cat friendly program aims to get more cats into clinics by working to improve care to an underserved population, identifying trends and baseline species information to increase understanding of cats, acknowledging the essential role of the owner in the veterinary visit, providing support to veterinarians and their teams as they create cat friendly environments, and outlining strategies for better standards of feline care.
Practices interested in the program must have one member of the AAFP on staff. Once the clinic has been approved as a Cat Friendly Practice, it will be listed on the online Cat Friendly Practice public database and will begin receiving toolkit materials with marketing pieces.
