Diamond Pet Foods announced it is expanding a voluntary recall to include additional products that may have been contaminated with Salmonella.

The recall has been expanded to include one production run and four production codes of Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul Adult Light formula dry dog food.

Diamond announced April 8, 2012 that it was suspending delivery of all products manufactured at its plant in Gaston, South Carolina after issuing a voluntary recall of its Naturals Lamb Meal and Rice dog food on April 6, 2012.

The April 6 recall affected certain batches of Diamond Naturals Lamb and Rice dry dog food, which the company said may have been contaminated with Salmonella from the South Carolina plant.

One bag of the Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul Adult Light food tested positive for Salmonella, though no canine illnesses were reported.

The Chicken Soup formula is distributed in Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia, and possibly throughout other channels.

"Diamond Pet Foods apologizes for any potential issues this may have caused pet owners and their dogs," Diamond said in a news release.

Diamond recommends that consumers who have purchased the specified products should discard the product. Consumers who would like a replacement product or refund can contact Diamond Pet foods at 800-442-0402, or by visiting www.chickensoupforthepetloverssoul.com/information.
