Bird mortality leads to recall

Customer complaints involving small bird mortality is prompting a voluntary recall of LabDiet and Mazuri feed products.

The food, produced by PMI Nutrition International, affects guinea pig, small bird, primate and maned wolf diets. The recall was initiated after the company received customer complaints, which involved animal illness and small bird mortality.

The company says the foods have potential for an elevated vitamin D level. Elevated vitamin D levels can be harmful to animals if fed for extended periods.

The products were manufactured at the Richmond, Indiana feed plant and were distributed throughout the U.S. and to a few international customers. Dealers have been contacted and asked to hold these products and to notify and retrieve the product from customers. The affected product should not be used, and where applicable, be returned to the retail dealer, PMI says.
