AvoDerm dog food recalled due to potential salmonella contamination

AvoDerm Natural Lamb Meal & Brown Rice Adult Dog Formula is being recalled because of a potential salmonella risk.

Breeder’s Choice Pet Food, the product’s maker, announced on September 11 that it is recalling a single manufacturing batch due to the possible salmonella contamination. According to Breeders Choice, the food was shipped to retailers and distributors in California, Georgia, Illinois, Nevada, Virginia, and Washington.

According to a Breeders Choice news release, the company is taking immediate measures to remove the items from retail locations and distribution centers.
 
There have been no human or pet illnesses associated with the recalled product to date, but Breeders Choice cautions consumers who may have come in contact with the contaminated product to contact their health care provider or veterinarian if any of the following symptoms arise:
  • Humans - Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever, arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms.
  • Pets - Lethargy, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, vomiting, decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain.
