Peanut butter for dogs recalled due to salmonella risk

Dog for Dog has issued a voluntary recall for its canine peanut butter product called Dogsbutter RUC with Flax PB.

The 16-ounce jars of Dogsbutter being recalled were manufactured from May 1 through Sept. 24, and the UPC code reads 003050.

Although no dogs or humans have been found to be contaminated with salmonella after handling Dogsbutter products, the company is conducting a voluntary recall as a preventive measure to ensure consumer safety.

The action taken by Dog for Dog is part of a larger recall involving approximately 100 products manufactured by Sunland and sold to Trader Joe’s. In that case, the FDA says it has gathered reports of 30 people across 19 states reportedly affected by salmonella poisoning related to the Sunland products.

Consumers who purchased the specified jars of Dogsbutter can either discard the product or return it to the point of purchase for a full refund, according to the manufacturer.

Dog for Dog noted in a release on its website that its Dogbar products are not related to the recall.
