Wellpet LLC, maker of Wellness Natural Pet Food for Dogs and Cats, is voluntarily recalling a limited batch of one of its pet food products that is geared toward small-breed adult dogs.

The batch being recalled is from the 12lb Small Breed Adult Health Dry Dog Food product, and it is identified by the “Best By” date of August 18, 2013, according to the Wellness Facebook page.

Wellpet pointed to higher-than-average moisture levels in a small batch of the product, which the company stated could cause the food to mold before its expiration date.

The possibility of early mold does not present a health risk, Wellpet said.

According to Wellpet’s Facebook posting, that specific bag size, recipe, and expiration date is the only product affected by the recall.
