Claudia’s Canine Cuisine recalls cakes for dogs
Claudia’s Canine Cuisine has issued voluntary recalls for two of its products: Holiday Hound Cake and Blueberry Hound Cake.
According to the company’s news release, the dog treats hold the potential to become moldy prior to their expiration date.
Attention was originally called to the problem when certain stores discovered mold on some of the cakes that were delivered to them. The manufacturer subsequently determined that because the cakes are packaged while warm, it increases moisture levels and creates an environment more conducive to mold growth.
How to identify the products
The recalled products are packaged under the Dogcandy brand and come in 7.5 oz. packages featuring a “best by” date of 08-2015.
Consumers can also identify the packages by their UPC codes, which are 692614010041 for Holiday Hound Cake, and 692614010058 for Blueberry Hound Cake.
The affected products were distributed in about 130 PetSmart stores in 36 states, including: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.
How to get refunds or product replacements
Consumers who purchased the cakes should immediately discontinue feeding them to pets, according to Claudia’s Canine Cuisine. Options for returning the cakes include:
- Take the product to the nearest PetSmart store for a full refund.
