Natura Pet Products takes another hit with newly expanded recall

Three months after Natura Pet Products expanded a voluntary recall of its dry pet food brands due to potential salmonella contamination, the company has had to widen the recall even further.

The last recall announcement in April included all dry foods with an expiration date prior to and including March 24, 2014. The latest version of the recall covers all products with expiration dates prior to June 10, 2014.

According to Natura, the affected dry pet food products are sold in bags through veterinary clinics, select pet specialty retailers, and online in the United States and Canada. The company also said in its news release that no canned wet food is affected by the recall.

The company released a statement on its website in which it apologized to consumers for the recall, writing, "We are truly sorry. We know this news disappoints you; we are disappointed too. Natura will always focus on high-quality ingredients, product safety and innovation in pet nutrition. We remain committed to making products you can trust."

Recalled products

The recall covers all lot codes, UPCs, and package sizes of the following products that feature expiration dates prior to June 10, 2014:

  • Innova dry dog and cat food and biscuits/bars/treats
  • EVO dry dog, cat and ferret food and biscuits/bars/treats
  • California Natural dry dog and cat foods and biscuits/bars/treats
  • Healthwise dry dog and cat foods
