June Is Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month

The American Humane Society established June as Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month. There are simple ways in which veterinarians can use their influence to help promote this message and encourage feline adoption. Below are five ways that practices can help cats in need.

1. Donate your Facebook status or post on behalf of your practice. Promote June as the Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month, and link back to the American Humane Society’s page for further information (americanhumane.org).
2. Contact your local shelter or rescue group (petfinder.com), and ask if they have a donation wish list or other flyer they’d like you to post at your practice or on your practice’s website, Facebook or Pinterest pages, or Twitter feed. The rescue may also be holding special events for Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month, which you can also help promote.
3. Feature an adoptable cat or share an adoption article through your practice’s blog, Facebook or Pinterest pages, or Twitter feed each day (or as often as you can) during the month of June.
4. Write an op-ed about the importance of pet adoption for your local paper.
5. Donate to your local shelter or rescue group in honor of Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month.
