From Nov. 19-21, the U.S. Public Health Services (USPHS) Commissioned Corps will be accepting applications from veterinarians who are interested in joining "America's Health Responders."

The USPHS Commissioned Corps, which exists to protect, promote, and advance the health and safety of the United States, says it offers a wide variety of roles for veterinarians to fill across the nation, including:

• Responding to animal and human disease outbreaks
• Managing disease prevention and control programs
• Conducting medical and biological research in the company of world-class investigators
• Regulating drugs and monitor vaccine development
• Ensuring public safety as a public health compliance or quarantine officer

According to the USPHS, veterinarians who become Commissioned Corps officers can indulge their interests and apply their knowledge in various categories including public health, epidemiology, food safety, laboratory animal medicine, veterinary pathology, and regulatory compliance and oversight.

The limit for this recruitment window is 20 applications and five reserve applications. Individuals who currently occupy a GS position and have less than three years of civil service time are also eligible.

The applications of veterinarians who apply will be viable for one year while they locate a position, the USPHS announced.
