USDA hiring veterinary positions this fall

Whether you’re looking for your first job or just need a change, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) may have what you’re looking for.

To respond to the avian influenza outbreak, the USDA hopes to fill 210 veterinary technician positions and 90 veterinarian positions this fall, according to the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association (JAVMA).

The application period runs through early October, depending on the position.

The positions are for one to two years, and are in multiple U.S. locations. Pay scales range from approximately $39,000-$51,000 for Animal Health Technicians and $58,000-$76,000 for veterinarians.

Those hired will be part of a pool of 450 temporary workers whose goal is to help the poultry and egg industries prepare for the fall migratory season and any potential H5N2 influenza virus outbreaks, Kevin Shea, administrator of the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), told JAVMA.

Job listings for the Animal Health Technician and Veterinary Medical Officer positions are posted on the usajobs.gov website.
