Most popular dog breeds in America announced

Does it seem like your practice sees more than its fair share of Labrador retrievers? There’s a reason why.

On Feb. 22, the American Kennel Club (AKC) announced that, according to its 2015 registration statistics, Labrador retrievers are once again the most popular dogs in America. This is the 25th consecutive year they have had the top spot, claiming it in 56 percent of states.

Other dog breeds in the top five, all of which continue to claim their spots, include the German shepherd (2nd), the golden retriever (3rd), the bulldog (4th), and the beagle (5th).

The complete list of winners, along with information about who fell to the bottom and rose to the top, is available in the AKC's related infographic.
