New I-9 form available Nov. 22

Practice owners and managers are familiar with Form I-9, Employee Information and Verification, required by law for employees to work in the United States. A new version of that form hopes to make that process more straightforward.

The latest version of the I-9 form will be available this week, reported the Society for Human Resource Management. Practices will have until Jan. 21, 2017 to use the new form, after which previous versions will become invalid.

The new form will be available on the U.S. Immigration and Citizenship and Immigration Services website on Nov. 22 and will expire Aug. 31, 2019.

Practice owner and managers can complete the form using Adobe Reader; however, they still must print the form, obtain the employee’s signature, and re-verify and update information as needed.
