Help clients understand the value of preventive healthcare with these free videos

Research shows that pet owners are willing to make changes and embrace preventive healthcare visits if they know it will benefit their pets. But for pet owners to find value in the recommendations of veterinary professionals and be motivated by their advice, there must be effective communication between the healthcare team and pet owners.

Partners for Healthy Pets (PHP), an alliance of more than 100 veterinary associations, veterinary colleges, and animal health companies focused on preventive care, and led by AAHA and the American Veterinary Medical Association, is offering these free, downloadable tools to help your team more effectively communicate the value of preventive care to pet owners.

The free tools include 22 training videos with accompanying scripts and discussion questions. Topics include:

  • Treatment Plans and Costs. This two-minute video provides both effective and ineffective ways to explain the costs associated with a doctor-recommended treatment plan.
  • Words Matter: Effective Versus Ineffective Ways to Talk About Heartworm Prevention. This two-minute video that shows two different ways of discussing heartworm prevention with pet owners.
  • History & Relationship Building. This video covers the essential elements of the history-taking process. Tips emphasize the importance of taking a thorough history using active listening skills and demonstrating genuine compassion for your patients.
  • Dental. This video shares communication techniques that will help you explain the importance of dental care and increase the likelihood that your recommendations are followed by clients.
