Become more feline friendly and earn RACE-approved CE credit with these free, online tools
Delivering veterinary services to cats is a different breed of care. And while some practices are exclusively dedicated to the care of cats, others would like to develop an increased focus on feline healthcare. Partners for Healthy Pets (PHP) has free resources to help both.
PHP, an alliance of more than 100 veterinary associations, veterinary colleges, and animal health companies focused on preventive care led by AAHA and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), offers free, downloadable tools to help you put the focus on felines.
One is the hour-long web conference, “Becoming a Cat-Friendly Practice,” presented by Elizabeth J. Colleran, DVM, MS, DABVP (Feline). Worth one hour of RACE-approved CE credit, this web conference will help you:
- Understand trends and research on companion cats and the veterinary care they receive
- Learn techniques to become cat friendly in all areas of medical care
- Discern the unique baseline species information regarding behavior, health, and environment
- Discover and use the Cat-Friendly Practice program
Many cat owners avoid getting veterinary care because of the stress that a visit can bring to both the cat and the owner. This conference offers strategies to lessen the stress of the veterinary visit and create a win-win for everyone involved.
Another web conference, “American Association of Feline Practitioners Feline-Friendly Handling Guidelines,” presented by Ilona Rodan, DVM, DABVP (Feline), covers how to handle cats in a manner that reduces their fear and fear-association aggression. It also introduces a standard operating procedure for handling cats. It’s also worth one hour of RACE-approved CE credit.
