Walk your dog, mister? Study shows pet owners increasingly willing to pay for services that make owning a pet easier

It’s part of a general trend toward happily paying for services that make living life in general a little easier. A new survey found that 46% of Americans regularly pay for delivery, driving, cleaning, handyman, and pet care services—a total of $177 billion dollars a year. How much are they willing to spend to make pet owning in particular a little less stressful? A lot, it seems.

Take Your Cat to the Vet Day is vampire approved

If you can’t convince cat-owning clients to bring their pets in for a visit, maybe Ian Somerhalder can. A telegenic actor best known for his role as a vampire in The CW’s supernatural drama The Vampire Diariesand for being the first major character to be killed off in ABC’s hit series Lost, Somerhalder was recruited by Royal Canin to help promote National Bring Your Cat to the Vet Day, coming up later this month.

Veterinarians versus the volcano

As the world’s most active volcano, Kilauea has been erupting almost constantly since 1983.One of five volcanoes that form the actual island of Hawaii, commonly known as the Big Island, it’s been a lot more active since May third, when the first of 18 new fissures opened up, spewing lava hundreds of feet in the air. Since then, a continuous flow of lava has swallowed cars, destroyed at least 25 homes, and forced the evacuation of nearly 2,000 residents. The State of Hawaii has 13 AAHA-accredited animal hospitals, but only two of them call the Big Island home.
