AHS announces findings of new heartworm incidence survey

While the hotbeds of heartworm disease haven’t changed dramatically in the past three years, the incidence numbers reported by participants in the 2016 American Heartworm Society (AHS) Incidence Survey indicate that the average number of positive cases per veterinary clinic has been inching upwards.

Sofie, which is powered by LifeLearn; and VetFolio, which combines resources from the North American Veterinary Community (NAVC) and AAHA, are two veterinary specific references trying to fill this gap.

American Heartworm Society gathering incidence data

The American Heartworm Society (AHS) is urging veterinarians to contribute their clinics’ heartworm incidence data to the 2016 Heartworm Incidence Survey. Every three years, thousands of veterinary practices and animal shelters submit the data that generates the AHS’ detailed heartworm incidence map.
