Winn and the AAFP to offer two joint scholarships for 2017

Winn Feline Foundation (Winn) and the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) are pleased to announce two joint scholarships for third or fourth year veterinary students enrolled in an accredited veterinary college or school in the United States or Canada. The two $2,500 awards will be based upon academic achievement, financial need, leadership, and dedication to and excellence in the study of feline medicine, health and welfare.

Federal judge issues delay on FLSA overtime rule

On Nov. 22, a federal judge issued a preliminary injunction to stop the implementation of U.S. Department of Labor’s Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime rule. This FLSA change would have significantly increased the threshold for overtime exemption pay from $23,660 to $47,476. The injunction means that changes are no longer effective Dec. 1, 2016. The injunction is temporary, but could become permanent, although it’s also possible that the rule could be changed and other standards put into place.

That’s why AAHA teamed up with the International Association for Animal Hospice and Palliative Care (IAAHPC) to create the 2016 AAHA/IAAHPC End-of-Life Care Guidelines. AVMA scholarships to leadership conference available

If you or a colleague wants to brush up on leadership skills, a new opportunity enables you to do just that at no cost. The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) is offering 10 scholarships to its members for the 2017 Veterinary Leadership Conference (VLC) to be held in Chicago Jan. 12-14. Scholarships are for $1,000 each. The application deadline is Nov. 16; scholarship recipients will be notified by Dec. 1.

Two AAHA accredited practice members receive hero awards

Behind every hero, there is a team that enables that heroism. In the case of hero pets, that team often consists of veterinary professionals. Now, some of those behind-the-scenes heroes are being recognized. On Sept. 11, during the American Humane Hero Dog Awards gala at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Ca., two AAHA accredited practices' staff members were honored with hero awards of their own during a special ceremony.
