Practice size is not an indicator of business issues, survey shows

As a practice manager, do you sometimes think the grass would be greener if your practice was smaller—or larger? A survey conducted by the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association (VHMA) suggests size doesn’t matter. In fact, it’s the seriousness of the issues, rather than the types of issues, that is the differentiator. Survey results were reported on the VHMA website in June.

New I-9 form available Nov. 22

Practice owners and managers are familiar with Form I-9, Employee Information and Verification, required by law for employees to work in the United States. A new version of that form hopes to make that process more straightforward. The latest version of the I-9 form will be available this week, reported the Society for Human Resource Management. Practices will have until Jan. 21, 2017 to use the new form, after which previous versions will become invalid.

New survey identifies interview candidate eccentricities

If your goal this year is to add or replace staff, be prepared, including for some eccentric behaviors, as a recent survey revealed. On Jan. 14, CareerBuilder announced the results of its nationwide survey of more than 2,500 hiring and Human Resources managers. In the survey, conducted online by Harris Poll from Nov. 4 to Dec. 1, 2015, respondents shared the most memorable job interview mistakes candidates have made. And there were some doozies.

AVMA Economic Report on Veterinary Capacity released

Are too many veterinarians crowding the marketplace? Not according the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). The AVMA released its fifth economic report, 2015: AVMA Report on Veterinary Capacity (the Report), on Oct. 8. The Report offers a view of the veterinary marketplace through the lens of excess capacity, and concludes that the need for veterinary services continues to outpace the ability to supply those services, according to the Report’s Executive Summary.
