MU receives $5 million gift for companion animal medicine, cancer research

A Missouri couple that has enjoyed excellent pet care from two graduates of the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine throughout the years has rewarded the institution with a $5 million dollar gift. The money will be used to fund the university's efforts in companion animal medicine and comparative oncology.

Hyperbaric chambers a breath of fresh air for animal hospitals

In October 2011, Dr. Andrew Turkell’s AAHA-accredited Calusa Veterinary Center became one of fewer than perhaps two dozen American veterinary hospitals to install a hyperbaric chamber. By the time his shiny new hyperbaric chamber was one year old, Turkell and his staff had performed more than 600 treatments.

IRS medical device tax likely to affect veterinarians in 2013

Veterinarians who are in the market for medical devices may want to consider making that purchase fairly soon. On Jan. 1, 2013, a recently finalized rule from the IRS will take effect that places a 2.3 percent excise tax on some medical devices regularly found in veterinary hospitals.

Forget taking your dog for a walk; he might prefer that you hand over the car keys. An SPCA organization in Auckland, New Zealand, has successfully completed an ambitious publicity stunt in which they taught three dogs to drive.
