Why is Cassidy so awesome?
Cassidy is one of the most caring employees we have here at the hospital. She goes above and beyond to make sure everyone feels special for birthdays, appreciation weeks, etc. Cassidy is a kind soul and speaks gently to every patient that walks into the hospital. She makes time to decorate each one with an individualized cage card. Cassidy also has a pretty sweet father who drops off weekly hand-baked muffins.
How does she go above and beyond?
Cassidy has worked for Broadway Veterinary Hospital for 2 years. She is hard in training to get her veterinary technician license and tries to apply her school knowledge to her everyday tasks. Cassidy has done drug dosage calculations to find errors and help make corrections. She makes sure to get her task list done, recorded, and explained whenever the situation allows. Cassidy will come in early and stay late to get tasks completed. She isn’t afraid to ask questions and perfect her technique.
In her own words:
Why do you love your job?
I love my job because we get to advocate for those that don’t have a voice. I have a passion for animal behavior and FearFree, and make sure that I take the time to ensure that my patients can be comfortable with me.
Oftentimes you can find me in the hospital dancing and singing for a dog that’s getting shots, or giving a shoulder rub to an anxious pet, or supplying Churu to a nervous kitty. I also love being a support for pet parents, who just want their babies to be okay.
I enjoy general practice so much because I get to form strong bonds with clients and patients so that they feel they are putting their pet in the hands of someone they trust. I mostly love that we are all in this together, whether it’s an assistant, a CSR, a client, a vet, an office manager, or a technician. We give our all every day to support each other and create the best experiences for our patients.
I love that I can call for help restraining and someone on the team will, without hesitation, show up and ask whether they should grab the front or the back or if they need to feed cheese or attempt to dance. We all have each other’s backs so that we can fully support each patient and pet parent. I leave each shift feeling a level of fulfilled that I never felt before I started working in veterinary medicine.
Tell us about your pets at home
My first baby is Goose, a 5-year-old MN DSH. He always keeps everyone on their toes, never knowing whether you’re about to get the best cuddle of your life or a bite to the hand. Then I got Duck, a 4-year-old MN DSH. He is a mama’s boy and loves to talk the night away. You can usually find him curled up against my side while I study. My next baby is Junie B. Jones, a 2-year-old FS DSH, who will jump in any box she finds and loves to slap her brothers in the face (with no claws out, just palm, which is even more humbling).
My most recent rescue is a 2-year-old MN chihuahua, Noodles. Noodles must be curled up on your chest at all times, unless he’s running around the house trying to get the cats to play with him. He is only 6 pounds, and possibly the cutest dog you will ever see, but he has proven to be a very difficult veterinary patient, to the point that it’s a running joke in the office now (but we will work on that).
What brought you to the profession?
I grew up being raised by parents that rescued every animal they could. I was always surrounded by animals and would always be found with one at my side. Caring for my animals growing up was what I found most comforting. It sort of fell into place for me when I was looking into different Bachelor’s programs and stumbled upon Appalachian State’s Veterinary Technology program. Once I started classes, I felt everything click. I soon got a job as a veterinary assistant at my current hospital and have never felt more like I am meant to be somewhere. Working through my clinicals has just further confirmed my love for the field. I don’t think I’ve ever felt more of a rush than when I successfully completed a cystocentesis for the first time.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
Usually outside of work, I am spending my time studying and working on my schoolwork. If I have free time, I like to curl up with a book and whichever cat will have me. I enjoy working out (to be able to lift heavier dogs, as I always tell my boyfriend) and spend my weekends trying different local restaurants and coffee shops.
Favorite show?
My favorite TV show is probably Psych. I grew up watching it with my dad, so it became a comfort show for me to put on whenever I feel like I need a pick-me-up.
Favorite celeb?
Chappell Roan
