Jananne O’Connell, DVM, MVPH is a native of Southside Virginia and attended Averett University in Danville, VA, where she completed a BS in Equestrian Studies/ Business Administration with minors in English and Theatre Arts. She relocated to Raleigh, NC to complete both the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (2007) and Master’s of Veterinary Public Health (2008) degree programs at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Her career has spanned general small animal practice (both single- and multi-unit leadership), emergency practice, and several stints with the North Carolina Division of Public Health. She joined Community Veterinary Partners in 2019 and became the lead doctor of Colony Park Animal Hospital, a 5-doctor practice located in Durham, NC, in June 2021. Joining an AAHA-accredited practice was a perfect match for her particular interests in surgery, anesthesia, dentistry, feline medicine, mentorship and community outreach. She is a member of the Community Veterinary Partners Operations Advisory Board, a Community Mentor for Catapult, an early-career DVM development course, and a Hospital Mentor for the CVP Summer Colleague experience for veterinary students. Dr. O’Connell lives in Cary, NC where she serves as the veterinarian representative on the Wake County Health and Human Services Board and as an Alumni Mentor for the NC State Student-Alumni mentorship program. She is a member of the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association. In this episode we talk about her story, mentoring, and much more!
