Our guest on this episode is Melissa Magnuson, DVM. Her passion for veterinary medicine began on her family’s pig and cattle farm in southern Minnesota. She earned her undergraduate degrees in biology and philosophy from Hamline University, completed graduate studies at the University of Southern Mississippi, and received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Minnesota in 1998.
After a rigorous internship in small animal medicine, surgery, and emergency care on the East Coast, Dr. Magnuson developed expertise in surgery, emergency medicine, and avian and exotic animal care. She is the owner of three AAHA-accredited veterinary hospitals in southern New Hampshire—one of which was named AAHA Practice of the Year in 2024 and was a national runner-up in 2019.   Outside of clinical practice, Dr. Magnuson is the founder of The Conscious Vet and creator of Conscious Care, a program dedicated to elevating the veterinary profession through team-centered development. She enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and three daughters, alongside their two dogs and five cats. In her free time, she loves hiking, biking, and reading.
