The wave of pet food makers conducting voluntary recalls continues early in 2013 as three more companies recently announced they are recalling certain products due to concerns over possible salmella contamination, and in one case possible low thiamine levels.

Diggin’ Your Dog Strippin’ Chicks Pet Treats

Pet food maker Diggin’ Your Dog is recalling a single lot of Strippin’ Chicks Pet Treats because of suspected salmonella contamination.

The recalled lot of Strippin’ Chicks Pet Treats comes in a 5-ounce bag, has a Use By date of 2-23-14, and features the lot code 250322, according to a news release from the company.

Consumers can receive a full refund by mailing the UPC and $1 to cover postage by mailing the UPC and lot code to Diggin’ Your Dog, LLC, PO Box 17306, Reno, NV 89511. All refunds will be processed within 10 business days (plus postage time), the company said.

Premium Edge, Diamond Naturals and 4health dry cat food formulas

Diamond Pet Foods is voluntarily recalling multiple dry cat food formulas after the company conducted tests showing that the products might have low thiamine (Vitamin B1) levels. The recalled products are:

• Premium Edge Finicky Adult Cat Formula dry cat food
• Premium Edge Senior Cat Hairball Management Formula dry cat food
• Premium Edge Kitten Formula dry cat food
• Diamond Naturals Kitten Formula dry cat food
• 4health All Life Stages Cat Formula dry cat food

Although the company reportedly has received no complaints or reports of illness, it is recalling the specific products to protect consumers’ pets from the potential harmful health effects of thiamine deficiency, including gastrointestinal and neurological complications.

Bravo! Raw Food Diet Chicken Blend for dogs and cats

Bravo! is recalling 2-pound tubes of Bravo! Raw Food Diet Chicken Blend for dogs and cats after discovering that the nationally distributed food may be contaminated with salmonella.

The specific batch included in the recall was manufactured on June 14, 2012. Packages feature the product code 21-102, and the batch ID code 6 14 12, the company said in its recall notice.

Bravo! recommended that consumers return unopened tubes of the recalled product to the point of purchase for a full refund. If they already opened a tube, consumers can return the washed plastic batch ID tag from the tube to the store where they purchased it for a full refund.
