Why Is Katherine So Awesome?
Katherine (Kat) is always willing to help—any department, any time. Kat recently started training our technician team at one of our sister hospitals where she uses AAHA guidelines and our own hospital manual as her guide. Kat took the time to watch the behavior of her team members and then go home and put together a training plan specifically for that hospital. She explained every step, and it worked! Her understanding and belief in our medicine is what makes her so valuable to this hospital and this industry.
How Does She Go Above and Beyond?
Kat never stops. She works and works until she goes home. She leads by example and, as a supervisor, this is a top priority. Management does not have to worry when Kat is working. If you are short staffed, she will volunteer. If you are looking to volunteer in the community, Kat will lead the team. Her spirit, her dedication, her eagerness to learn and grow, her determination to do more and become better—these are all the reasons that I nominated Kat as Trends magazine’s Employee of the Month!
In Her Own Words
Why do you love your job? I love that every day is different. I could be doing surgeries in the morning and reception in the afternoon. I enjoy the challenge of working with pets and figuring out the mystery of “what Fluffy ate” or educating a client on their first puppy.
Quote: “Say yes to adventure.”
Pets at home: Timmy, an old orange tabby, and Toothless, my young adventure cat.
What brought you to the profession? I loved animals as a kid, and my mother encouraged that by volunteering at the wildlife sanctuary, getting me behind the scenes at zoos, and letting me have pets.
Hobbies outside of work: I love to read, ride motorcycles, adventure to new places, and try new things.
Favorite thing to read/watch: I love watching Bones, House, or other medical drama shows. I love to read fiction and get lost in a good book.
Special thanks to Trisha Merchant, CVPM, hospital manager of Animal Hospital of Pensacola, for this month’s nomination!
