As of Dec. 31, 2024, there are 22 AVMA-recognized veterinary specialty organizations, with some 18,000 specialists (diplomates) worldwide.
Some veterinarians belong to more than one specialty. Some specialties have sub-specialties within the organization. The numbers may fluctuate year to year but this chart gives an idea of the numbers of specialists in a given field. Click on the name of the organization to visit the specialty website to learn more.
