Animal health giant Zoetis this week announced that it is updating the label of its injectable monoclonal antibody, Librela (bedinvetmab injection). Librela is used to treat osteoarthritis pain in dogs.
The new label, submitted to the FDA by Zoetis, incudes the following additions:
Post-approval experience (2025)
Information for dog owners
Dosage and administration update
Client information sheet
This full-page addition to the label includes information on what Librela is, what to expect from treatment, what to discuss with the veterinarian, and some of the potential side effects. The sheet also has information on how to report any adverse events to Zoetis and the FDA.
Despite the additions to the label, Zoetis maintains that it fully supports Librela. Librela was approved for use in the United States in 2023 and has been used millions of times around the world.
“Every medicine has potential benefits and risks, and it’s important for pet owners to work closely with their veterinarians to weigh those appropriately and maintain an open dialogue about their pets’ experiences,” said Richard Goldstein, DVM, DACVIM, DECVIM-CA, Global Chief Medical Officer and Head of Medical Affairs for Zoetis in a company press release. “With nearly 25 million doses distributed globally, we stand firmly behind Librela, and the positive impact it is having on dogs that suffer from osteoarthritis pain.”
