Listen up! Welcome to Veterinary Voices, a monthly feature dedicated to spotlighting inspiring veterinary professionals and thought leaders who are speaking up and making waves.  Join us as we amplify their stories, share their insights, and celebrate the diverse voices shaping the future of veterinary medicine.  No matter your role in veterinary medicine, there’s something valuable to discover in the journeys of these influential figures.

Carol Hurst conducts workshops on leadership development, personal and professional wellbeing, and communication. Her workshops include CSR Bootcamp and CSR 2.0, both of which aim to equip CSRs–a role she said is undertrained and undervalued–with the tools they need to excel in their roles in the veterinary practice. She also shares empowering content on both Instagram and LinkedIn to help her audience feel more confident and supported in the work they do.

“Learning solid leadership concepts in veterinary medicine is hard because we are a very task-focused industry: place an IV catheter, answer the phone, collect the sample;” she said. “Servant leadership concepts like empathy, stewardship, healing, and building community are values that mean a lot to me and ones that I try to live and promote in any of my educational content.”

One of Hurst’s main goals is to help those she teaches deliver a strong client experience in their work. “What do you want your clients to feel when they walk into your practice? Now, what can you do to help elicit those feelings? Being that intentional with each interaction is how you build bonded clients,” she said.
