Leadership Identification and Nominating Committee (LINC)

Evaluate applicants for the Board of Directors and make nominations for appointments.

Charge/Objective

This committee is responsible for identifying individuals who are qualified and suitable to serve as Officers and Directors of AAHA. LINC members will make recommendations for qualified candidates for positions on the AAHA Board of Directors.

LINC is authorized to perform the specific duties and responsibilities outlined below, as well as any other duties assigned by AAHA’s Bylaws or the AAHA Board of Directors.

The Committee has the following responsibilities:

  • Read and review the LINC informational notebook.
  • Meet virtually as a group for an orientation session in January 2025.
  • Meet virtually with the AAHA CEO and current President to discuss strategy and organizational needs for the association and Board of Directors.
  • Applications open in late January 2025 and close in February 2025; LINC members will be tasked with reading and evaluating all application packages.
  • LINC will be responsible for selecting candidates to interview in person in Denver, Colorado.
  • LINC will travel to Denver on a Thursday to perform candidate interviews on a Friday and Saturday **specific weekend is to be determined but will take place sometime in May 2025.
  • LINC will evaluate all interviewed candidates and will make recommendations on appointments for the AAHA Board of Directors.

Terms, Method of Appointment, Requirements

Committee members will be appointed by the President Elect of AAHA. LINC shall consist of between five (5) and seven (7) AAHA Accredited Practice Team Members whose practices have maintained AAHA Accreditation in good standing for at least three consecutive years prior to their appointment to LINC. LINC’s membership shall include: a minimum of four (4) licensed veterinarians, one of whom may be a Past President of AAHA; at least one (1) AAHA Accredited Practice Team Member who does not have to be a licensed veterinarian; and the Immediate Past President of AAHA.

Except for the Board Liaison and the AAHA Staff Representative, each committee member will serve a three (3) year term, with terms running from the annual conference in September to the following annual conference in September. The Immediate Past President will serve a one (1) year term, acting in the role of Immediate Past President during that time.

Meetings/Time Commitment

LINC will meet virtually several times ahead of the in-person interviews in May 2025. LINC will meet for one hour for an initial orientation meeting sometime in January 2025. LINC will also meet for one hour virtually with the CEO of AAHA along with the current President to discuss the needs of the association, the Board of Directors and the current strategy of the organization. LINC will be tasked with reading and evaluating the application packages of all candidates. Reading and grading application packages could range from 5-15 hours depending on the number of applications that are received. LINC will travel to Denver, Colorado on a Thursday in May 2025. LINC will interview candidates on a Friday and Saturday, specific weekend in May 2025 TBD. Please plan to travel for 3-4 days in May for interviews. All expenses will be reimbursed including flight, meals and associated travel costs. Hotel expenses will be covered by the association.

Reports

After the in person interviews the committee will report to the Board of Directors and CEO with their recommendations for appointments to the Board of Directors.
