Veterinary Voices: Mariana Pardo

Meet Mariana Pardo, a veterinary emergency and critical care specialist, founder, and social media content creator. While she loves the rush of emergency medicine, she also loves teaching and empowering others so that they can provide care to pets in families in their communities.

Another passion of hers is diversity, equity, and inclusion in veterinary medicine. As a mom, she said she is reminded daily by her children that life is more than work. “Motherhood re-centers me,” she said. “It reminds me of what I’m fighting for: a world that is kinder and more equitable, for them and for every child.”

This inspiration helps to fuel her work advocating for diversity, equity, and inclusion within veterinary medicine, particularly to ring more attention to the barriers faced by international, Latinx, and underrepresented veterinarians within the industry.

Listen up! Welcome to Veterinary Voices, a monthly feature dedicated to spotlighting inspiring veterinary professionals and thought leaders who are speaking up and making waves.  Join us as we amplify their stories, share their insights, and celebrate the diverse voices shaping the future of veterinary medicine.  No matter your role in veterinary medicine, there’s something valuable to discover in the journeys of these influential figures.

Mariana Pardo is a veterinary emergency and critical care specialist who loves the excitement and rapid pace of emergency medicine, as well as the urgency, problem-solving, and constant demand to think critically and act decisively. “It’s the perfect mix for my brain,” she said.

But what she loves most about vet med are the opportunities for connection through shared purpose.

“Every shift, every case, every life we touch is an act of service. It’s the entirety of it, from the medical mystery you need to solve, to the teamwork that’s needed, to the vulnerability of a whole family in need, to the wordless communication with a patient that thanks you with their eyes. There’s nothing else like it.”
