FDA announces recalls, shampoo alert

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced the recall of several different types of pig ear products, and has also issued a warning about a type of pet shampoo that may have led to a womans death.
 
Boss Pet Products Diggers Natural Pig Ear pet treats, and Blackman Industries PrimeTime brand 2 ct. and 5 ct. Premium Pig Ears and all KC Beefhide brand 20 ct. Premium Pig Ear products are being recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination, the FDA reports.
 
The FDA has also issued an alert to pet owners, saying they should "use caution with the use of an unapproved animal drug product, Douxo Seborrhea Shampoo (0.1% phytosphingosine), distributed by Sogeval Laboratories, Inc. of Coppell, Texas after recently receiving a report of the death of a woman associated with the use of the product on her dog."
 
According to the agency, the woman had asthma and had a sudden asthma attack and died when bathing her dog with the shampoo. A few days later, another asthmatic family member bathed the dog using the same product and experienced a mild asthma attack but recovered, the FDA said. The FDA is investigating the reports, but advises comsumers with respiratory conditions to consult their physicians before using the product.
